We've seen Kendrick Lamar on the front lines of the protests several times, most recently popping up in Compton this weekend. The world-class rapper has always been vocal about racism and being black in America, addressing the issue on his classic album To Pimp A Butterfly. A representative of Top Dawg Entertainment, the label has just announced that they're bossing up and giving away boxes of free food, water, and supplies in their hometowns.
Top Dawg Entertainment has teamed up with the Think Watts Foundation to present "Above and Beyond," a free food distribution event for the Watts community.
The event has been sponsored by Beyond Meat, meaning that healthy alternatives will be available to everybody, even those who eat plant-based. Additional sponsors include Aqua Equity, Community Healing Gardens, GodissLove, and Primestor.
"Above and Beyond" will take place on Wednesday, June 10 in several key Watts locations. TDE will distribute thousands of food boxes from the Jordan Downs community to the Nickerson Gardens.
The Top Dawg Entertainment family is committed to enriching the Watts community, traditionally holding events on a yearly basis during the holiday season. This time around, they're giving back because the world needs it. With the current pandemic and a rebellion against police violence and systemic racism, TDE is doing what they can.
