Top 5 (Non-Single) Hooks From Fetty Wap's Debut

Fetty Wap's self-titled debut album officially drops tomorrow but as of midnight you can stream it on NPR. Fetty has already dropped several songs that appear on the album, including four official singles -- "Trap Queen," "679," "My Way," & "Again." But at 20 tracks in length, the album has plenty more to offer.

We took a listen and were pleased with the album's overall consistency. A lot of the songs sound the exact same, and a lot of them sound like one long hook -- a testament to Fetty's innate pop appeal. It was surprisingly difficult to whittle down a list of the five best non-single hooks from the album, but we did. Here it is.

Fetty Wap bestows "Trap Queen" with the album's leadoff slot, and you'd expect a dropoff in comparative catchiness from the number 2 track as Fetty endeavors to pace himself for the remainder of the album's 20 tracks. But "How We Do Things" comes in hot with an absolutely blazing hook. Though it lacks the sort of defining instrumentation provided by the steel drum synth stabs of "Trap Queen" or the filtered bass line of "679," the hook features what is easily one of Fetty's best melodies on the entire album. Squawwwww!

Released earlier this week, "Jugg" is not technically a single, though it has all the trappings of one. The amount of flavor Fetty manages to inject into the word "jugg" (specifically the third time he sings it) is incredible. That word alone probably has more flavor than the rest of the words on the song combined.

The hook on "Time" feels like a mashup of his biggest hits and as such is indicative of his general lack of melodic range. But by the same token, it is incredibly catchy. It sits in the absolute center of Fetty's pop trap aesthetic.

Whereas artists like Audio Push and The Underachievers consistently garner reader ratings upwards of 85% on this site, Fetty's songs span an almost comically wide range. With a 94% reader approval rating, "RGF Island" is his highest rated song by far. And with good reason. RGF Island sounds like an amazing place.

One of the most pleasant surprises from the album. Fetty's voice is charismatic, so charismatic that it tends to dominate the hooks -- one of the reasons "Trap Queen" became so popular is because it combines Fetty's memorable voice with memorable production.

But on "Trap Luv," Fetty keeps it simple on the hook, letting this glorious beat get the shine it deserves.
