The Truth about Lions also receives contributions from Mr. Lock (Nick Lake), a singer/song-writer featured on 9 songs of the debut mixtape. The trio played basketball at Princeton University. Working well together, they have translated their teamwork and competitive focus to successful studio sessions. Neon Music: Mixtape Vol. 1 Compilation of Neon Music: Mixtape Vol. 1 began in 2009 during winter break at Princeton University. While Briggs had composed several instrumentals, he had never before put in the hours to rid a song of its bootleggedness and had definitely never produced a full record. Teammate Nick Lake, upon hearing an early version of “Get you,” put pen to paper. The two began recording lyrics in the closet of Briggs’ dorm room studio, complete with a pop screen made from a spiderman fishing net and a girlfriend’s pair of pantyhose. After the two heard Max Huc’s talent for freestyle in the locker room later that spring, Max was invited to lay down verses for “Mr. Incredible” and “Eyes”. This collaboration inspired the vision of sharing a multi-genre mixtape with a larger audience, and Briggs continued producing, mixing and mastering after he graduated in May 2009, emailing new beats and visiting Huc and Lake at Princeton for recording sessions. The group is both confident and hopeful that there’s something on this mixtape that everyone can relate to. Please send any comments, questions, or suggestions to itsneonmusic@gmail.com. Briggs and Huc will be living in Los Angeles working on a follow-up album set to be released in August 2010. Briggs is interested in pursing additional production collaborations.
