The Game went back to back with his latest album, The Documentary 2, releasing second disc Documentary 2.5 as a separate album one week later. While the rapper arguably came harder on the second installment, its no surprised that the sales count is looking to be a LITTLE lower this time around. While D2 just debuted at number 2 on the charts with 95k sold, D2.5 is looking to move somewhere around 40-45,000 copies traditionally, and 45-50,000 including streams.

When listening to the two nearly 80-minute-long discs that The Game has released in the past week, it doesn't take long to realize that they're both very good albums. The Documentaries 2 and 2.5 both have high-profile guests who deliver, excellent tributes to Compton, and surprising arrays of beats, which is more than you'd expect from a whopping two and a half hours of new music from Game, let alone any rapper living or dead.

The Game released a massive double-album last week, star-studded with guest appearances by the likes of Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Kanye West. It's hardly the first time The Game's release went deeper than the singles. Often times, the most rewarding tracks are the deeper, overlooked cuts. The Game, who has released nine albums and fourteen mixtapes, has no shortage of tracks you probably missed when they were first released. Those are the songs we're going to focus on today.

The west coast sound is alive with the release, as it falls in line sonically with the likes of YG, Jay Rock, and Dr. Dre's Compton. The samples help to give the record a nostalgic vibe amongst the dense production.

The Game and DJ Skee are old friends, having been the dynamic duo behind the legendary diss track "300 Bars." Both have had very successful careers in very different ways, and The Game stopped by Skee's talk show recently to promote The Documentary 2.  The interview covered a variety of topics and gave many insights about the album, none greater than the fact that The Game apparently recorded 700 or so songs and eventually narrowed it down to 38. He recalled showing Dre 20 tracks and Dre telling him they were all trash.

The Game is a man of contradictions. His long-awaited follow-up to 2005's The Documentary begins with the Compton rapper hopping out of his car to bust some heads, and ends with a cheery hook sung by will.i.am and Fergie that sounds like it belongs in a Mary Kate & Ashley movie set in Los Angeles. In between, he's all over the place, sometimes slipping up with his lyrics, collab choices, or subject matter, but more often than not giving us some of his best material in years.

“My nostalgia is one hundred percent Compton and zero percent snitch" - The Game --------------------- 3:35 PM, HNHH HQ, one Monday in September: the elevator door groaned open. There stood The Game and his entourage. I couldn’t actually see his face, but I could still see him, amid the flood of bodies pouring out of the elevator and into the adjacent room -- a camo snapback floating above the crowd, cocked up and backwards at the jauntiest angle possible.
