Taylor J is going all-out this year, and his music is getting better and better. He's already dropped two videos as well as a surprise 6-track EP, Before the Wakeup. If anyone's still sleeping on the Twin Cities emcee, his new single, "This Year," should provide the full wake-up. The track was played last night on FakeShoreDrive's Shade 45 show, and HNHH is pleased to present the online premiere today.
"This Year" is produced by Adothegod, whose credits range from Chevy Woods to Mac Miller. The record starts with Taylor channeling the "vibe," softly repeating, "We ain't givin' no fucks this year." The intro puts the listener right in the studio with Taylor, though it would be underwhelming if he didn't crush the verses that ensue. He does. The inspired, and sometimes painful, tear on which Taylor embarks summarizes why he's putting everything he has into the rap game, and how he can feel that his time has finally arrived. Feel the inspiration, and look out for much more imminent material from Taylor J.
I can't play, n*ggas dyin' man
I lost everything, still had to find my faith
Used to stress in my sleep, had all kind of dreams
The last 25 years did all kinds of things
