Last Friday proved a bountiful harvest for hip-hop fans. Though we didn't end up landing the Bodied Soundtrack as originally thought, contributions from Takeoff, Metro Boomin (and by extension, new Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Gunna & more), Vince Staples, Swizz Beatz, Moneybagg Yo and more helped solidify the occasion as a memorable one. Naturally, many have been curious to see how Takeoff's first foray into solo artistry fared on a sales level. The narrative of "Takeoff as best Migos rapper" has been a prevalent one of late, but is it closer to cult philosophy than wide consensus?
Now, HDD has come through with some preliminary numbers. It would appear the day's big winner was the recently found Metro Boomin, who emerged from retirement to drop off Not All Heroes Wear Capes. Metro is projected to move between 45-55k units, with a mere 3-4k coming from "physical sales." An artist brought to prominence by the digital era, with sales reflected accordingly. Takeoff's The Last Rocket went on to move an approximated 35-45k units; for a bit of inter-group context, Quavo's Quavo Huncho moved 99,000. Vince Staples' west-coast inspired FM fared admirably, pushing 16-19k units.
