Jay Z continually pushes to expand his business reach. Not satisfied with only being a rapper/entertainer he bought a minority share with the then New Jersey Nets. After helping the team move to Brooklyn, and being an integral part of the franchise's re-branding, he was ready to move onto his next venture, sports management.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Kevin Durant told The Oklahoman that switching his representation to Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports is not a sign that he will leave the Thunder once he is eligible for free agency.
"He has nothing to do with if I'm going to leave OKC or none of that," Durant said. "I heard that before so put that out on the table. He has nothing to do with that. He knows his lane with me. Their team knows their lane with me. And they're letting me handle the basketball part. I would tell fans not to worry about that at all."
Since deciding to sell the Brooklyn Nets, Jay-Z and his Roc Nation Sports have been busing signing players from multiple leagues, and now just made a play to sign WNBA standout Skylar Diggins of the Tulsa Shock.
Showing her new allegiance to the agency, Skylar posed for a shot of her flashing “The Roc” symbol. The camera-friendly Diggins was the third pick in this year’s WNBA draft.
Expect Jay, and his Roc Nation Sports crew to continue to make moves in multiple leagues, and don’t be surprised to see them make a splash in the NBA when the Playoffs wrap up.
