Though far removed from Washington Irving's gothic tale The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, Brooklyn drill rapper Sleepy Hallow seems determined to forge a legend of his own. Today, Hallow puts forth a brand new, twelve-track effort titled Sleepy For President, featuring appearances from Sheff G, Fivio Foreign, Jay Critch, and more. As expected, the project features no shortage of drill bangers, though don't count out Hallow as a one-trick pony. Those who spend time unpacking the album might find themselves surprised at his versatility, not to mention his willingness to explore unexpected production choices.
Tracks like the Sheff G-assisted "Don't Panic," makes it difficult to heed the title's advice, a frantic guitar-based drill loop conjuring a tense backdrop. "6 AM in New York" brings the acoustics out for a deviation into melodic street rap territory, proof that Hallow can keep stride with his peers regardless of style. "Bad Luck" finds him looking inward, taking to a minimalist piano-driven instrumental for one of the album's emotional cornerstones. While many might think of the Brooklyn drill movement and make immediate sonic assumptions, Sleepy Hallow's new album proves that he's only just getting started. Check it out for yourself.
