The Philadelphia Sixers are the first team in the NBA, and all of the four major sports, to sell an advertisement space on their jerseys. Partnering with Stub Hub, the Sixers today revealed their jerseys for the 2017-18 season which is when the NBA's three year pilot program will kick off.

According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the Sixers sold the 2 1/2 inch x 2 1/2 inch space on their jersey to Stub Hub for $5 million a year. The Sixers, like all of the NBA teams, will keep half of the sponsorship money while the other half will go to the players- resulting in an increased salary cap down the line.

Each team has the ability to choose who they partner with as long as it doesn't deal in alcohol, politics or gambling, so it will be interesting to see which brands align with each team.

For example, the Knicks selling jersey ad space to Glad trash bags or the Brooklyn Nets selling space to a morgue would be perfect fits for both franchises.
