Later tonight, rapper Saweetie is set to make her debut as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live. As is tradition, she linked up with some of the cast members, as well as this evening’s celebrity host, Canadian actor Simu Liu, to film a promotional clip.

“Hi I’m Simu Liu, and I’m hosting SNL this week with musical guest, Saweetie,” the Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings star says into the camera. Instead of addressing Liu, the “Best Friend” singer turns to the cast member on her other side, Kyle Mooney, to apprehensively say “Hello, Kyle.”

Mooney then responds, “Hello, Saweetie,” as the two awkwardly look off into the distance, clearly avoiding eye contact. “Do you two know each other?” cast member Cecily Strong asks the duo from the other end of the group, causing him to emotionally respond, “we did, before she broke off our engagement!”

Sensing some tension, Liu jumps back into the conversation to ask, “ok, is this going to be a problem?” While Saweetie says, “no,” Mooney responds with, “probably, I don’t know,” before storming off the stage. From the sounds of things, at least one of this evening’s skits will include a lover’s quarrel of some sort.

When she’s not arguing with her “ex-finance,” viewers of tonight’s episode will get to see the California native perform her latest single, “Icy Chain,” which comes ahead of the release of her debut album, Pretty Bitch Music. The project is expected to drop in 2022 after facing several delays.
