Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj shut down the internet on Saturday night when they released an official remix of "Flawless." In addition to new lyrics from Bey and a firebrnd verse from Nicki, the duo also threw in a short sample of the horns from OutKast's "SpottieOttieDopaliscious" to keep things interesting. Stank you smelly much, ladies.
Samples Of The Week: August 7
On her other "big deal" song of the week, Nicki Minaj went for an on-the-nose sample, using Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back" for her much buzzed-about track "Anaconda." Bringing the booty anthem into the 21st century, Nicki Lewinsky showed that she has more to offer the world than her assets that graced the cover art.
For "Sex On The Beach," a highlight from PARTYNEXTDOOR's sophomore album, the Toronto crooner sampled "Latch," a big hit for UK dance duo Disclosure. The song, which was originally released in September 2012, has seen near-constant airplay ever since, with its staying power firmly cemented at this point. PND cut the BPM in half, and transformed the track into a seductive banger.

A breakdown of the week's hottest tracks by their samples.
When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh-huh honey".
