Russell Westbrook recorded his 41st triple-double of the season last night in OKC, matching Oscar Robertson's single-season record which hasn't been touched since 1962. And Russ only needed 22 minutes to get the job done.
Per ESPN,
"It's a special night I definitely won't ever forget," Westbrook said. "I'm just truly honored to do it here, especially, in Oklahoma City."
After Westbrook recorded his 10th assist of the night, notching the milestone triple-double, the ref held the ball at the next stoppage of play and allowed the public address announcer to commemorate Westbrook as the crowd chanted M-V-P.
"I was in shock, honestly, man. Just kind of sitting there, embracing the moment," Westbrook said of the stoppage. "I didn't realize they were stopping it for me until the ref was holding the ball; but just thanking God for the opportunity to play, because I've had different [times] where I've been hurt and had to sit out, and to be able to play is something I will never take for granted."
Westbrook's 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists in the 110-79 victory over Milwaukee puts his season average at 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists with just five games remaining.
