Rockie Fresh has released a substantial number of loosies since he rolled out his The Night I Went To... series in the first third of 2016. His new song "Rap Shit Back," a salute to the rap canon, might be one of his best of the year.

A gem of a sample unearthed by Bizness Boi and Th3ory forms the backbone of "Rap Shit Back." Rockie indulges his inner "'90s baby going crazy" and shouts out Nas, Jay, Pac, Big, 3k, Mos Def, Big Pun, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Vic Mensa, Chance the Rapper, LL Cool J, Outkast, UGK, and Jadakiss. He also names the following albums as integral to his hip hop edification.

  • College Dropout
  • Resonable Doubt
  • Dedication 1 & 2
  • The Chronic
  • Marshall Mathers LP
  • All Eyez On Me
  • The Black Album
  • Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
  • Food and Liquor
  • Doggystyle

Quotable Lyrics

Remember working on my first tape
Rockie's Modern Life
A young nigga, I'm just tryna get it right
Future bright, junior college by my family house
I'm bumping College Dropout or that Reasonable Doubt
I'm in the couch
High school was Dedication 1, Dedication 2
I wore that BAPE for you niggas ever knew
