Two legendary Hollywood creatives are teaming up to tell the story of Wall Street bad guy Bernie Madoff, the infamous financier who ran what is considered the largest Ponzi scheme of all time and made off with around $18 billion in investors’ money. Produced by HBO, the film will share its title with the book it's based on – Wizard of Lies.
Robert De Niro will play Madoff, while legendary director Barry Levinson will helm the set. It's De Niro's first time working with HBO and it looks to be an intense and troubling look at our financial system. There are multiple instances in the trailer that look like surreal depictions of an internal struggle with guilt, juxtaposed with jubilant excesses that come with massive wealth.
