Behind The Beat: Goose
When one hears “Goose wit another one,” expect to experience the full star quality of whatever rapper comes on the track. Goose has spent much of his young career alongside two particular stars, Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan, whom came to fame together as the duo known as Rich Gang, which dissolved in early 2015. Goose was there for most of Rich Gang’s regrettably short-lived takeover, assisting in the production of several songs on the Birdman-hosted tape, Tha Tour: Part 1, now hailed as a classic.
Birdman Signs AR-AB & Compton Menace To Cash Money
Though he's experienced some dissent within his ranks, Birdman is adding to his roster at Cash Money. The latest Cash Money signees come from opposite sides of the country, Philly's AR-AB and Compton Menace (from the CPT, of course). AR-AB shared a video of himself and Menace standing behind Birdman as the Cash Money boss announced the new signings.
Birdman Has Turned His "Respek" Catchphrase Into A Song
Was this Birdman's plan all along? Over a week ago, after demanding that The Breakfast Club put some "respek" on his name and storming out of his interview less than two minutes after his arrival, Birdman's name became one of the web's top trending topics for at least a few days. And during that time, it was rarely treated with respek, instead being mocked and meme'd to a hilarious but eventually superfluous extent.
Birdman Shares Release Dates For "Ms. Gladys" & "Rich Gang 2"
Shortly after giving the most hilarious interview of the year -- all in under two minutes, Birdman has shared the release date of two upcoming albums that he's involved in. First up is his recently announced solo album, which will be his first since 2009's Priceless. Dedicated to his late mother, Ms. Gladys is set to arrive on June 24.
Rich Homie Quan Says Young Thug Is Still His Best Friend
During a recent concert, before dropping "Lifestyle," still the biggest hit to his name, Young Thug shouted, "Hey, fuck Rich Homie!" -- Rich Homie being the other collaborator on the track, taken off their 2014 joint tape Tha Tour: Part 1, which they released as the duo Rich Gang.
Behind The Beat: London On Da Track
Young Thug has built intriguing partnerships with a handful of Atlanta's top producers, but soon after he first came onto the scene, his main guy behind the boards has been London on da Track. One need not hear "we got London on da Track" (which is actually said by Skooly, not Thug) to know it's a London track. His brand is a smooth and immersive sound, one that uses careful patterns to achieve a subtle hypnosis.
Rich Homie Quan Namedrops Young Thug At Concert, Thugger Fires Back On Twitter
Remember last month when Rich Homie Quan posted a picture from the Cash Money studios and hinted that Rich Gang was coming back? Well, it seems that whatever reunion he was referring to won't include his former partner, Young Thug. During a recent concert, Quan brought up Thug's name after a male fan had allegedly tried to touch him.
Rich Homie Quan Countersued By Former Label
Rich Homie Quan ended his relationship with his former label Think It's A Game Entertainment in August when he sued them for $2 million, citing unpaid royalties. Now T.I.G. Ent is countersuing Quan in an attempt to block from releasing any new music or signing with another label.
Top Tracks: November 16 - November 22
There weren't too many big releases this past week, unless you're an Adele fan, but we've got heat coming in December from guys like Curren$y and G-Eazy, who both shared new singles off their upcoming albums. This week's Top 10 also includes two tracks off the soundtrack to "Creed," which will hit theaters on November 25, and three new tracks from Thugger, who is currently prepping his fourth project of the year, Hi-Tunes, his debut album.
10 Essential London On Da Track Productions
Atlanta's hotbed of talent has birthed a ton of huge artists in the past five years. Amongst them is London on da Track, a twenty-four year old ATLien who has provided beats for the likes of Waka Flocka Flame, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, and many more. You probably know him best for his work with Young Thug, who has been his go-to collaborator for the better part of his career.
Rich Homie Quan Says Rich Gang Is Back, "Tha Tour: Pt. 2" On The Way
A few days ago, we were worried that we would never see another Metro Thuggin collaboration. Luckily, Young Thug and Metro Boomin quickly made peace and dropped a banger on us.
Top Tracks: November 2 - November 8
10. Fetty Wap - Jimmy Choo It's been less than two months since Fetty Wap's debut self-titled album, which went No. 1, and he's already dropped a joint tape with French Montana and has another EP in the works. "Jimmy Choo," dedicated to the Malaysian fashion designer, would sound nicely on the upcoming release. It's softer than most of Fetty's radio anthems, as Zoovier channels the sound of his new life of luxury.
Young Thug's Most Entertaining Lyrics
You might be thinking "Here we go, yet another dissection into the enigma that is Young Thug." But that's just the thing with Thugger. At surface value he may appear to be an overly flamboyant, drug fueled nonsense rapper, but it seems that the further we dig into his releases and their lyrics, the more bountiful they seem.
6 Ls Birdman Took In 2015
Since the defection and lawsuit of former right-hand man Lil Wayne at the top of 2015, Birdman has been taking one L after another. He has few if any reputed allies left, and evidence strongly suggests that neither Nicki Minaj nor Drake will be returning to Cash Money once their contracts expire. Let's look back at the first half of 2015 through the lens of Birdman-related fiascos.
Who Had The Better Verse: Young Thug Vs. Rich Homie Quan
I think it’s safe to say that Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug have emerged as one of the best duos in rap. Granted, they might not be as lyrically enticing as Jay Z and Kanye, but they both exude passion. Prior to their rift, they were untouchable. Their immaculate chemistry wasn’t something to ignore. Whether they were both crooning about stealing your girl and showing love to their homies, they did it with fervor and enthusiasm. They have forged a nice niche in rap as being the go-to party starters.
Young Thug's Stylist Explains The Inspiration Behind His Wardrobe
One of the main reasons Young Thug is so controversial is simply the way he dresses; "I swear every time I dress myself, it go motherfuckin' viral" is now one of his most famous lines. Just look at him at the end of the "Check" video-- wearing a skintight Hooter's tank that even the restaurant's most underendowed hostesses would have trouble fitting into. And that's tame for Thugga. While most of his outfits can pass for androgynous, he's perfectly happy to show up in a dress.
Rich Homie Quan Raps About Raping Women On Another Leaked Song
Last month, we were pretty shocked to hear Rich Homie Quan allude to raping a woman on the recently-leaked song "I Made It" (all traces of which seem to have been wiped from the internet).
Young Thug's Engineer Speaks On Rich Gang Leaks
Random Young Thug leaks aren’t all that rare to see, but what happened earlier this week was more than just a minor leak. Apparently there were over 50 Young Thug track & 17 Rich Homie Quan songs that surfaced online this week, and Thugger’s engineer wasn’t happy about it. Taking to Reddit today, Alex Tumay, a.k.a Thugger’s engineer, had the following statement to make:
The 5 Songs Rich Homie Quan Went In The Furthest On
Rich Homie Quan told us on his first mixtape, in 2012, I Go In On Every Song. Next came Still Goin' In and Still Goin' In (Reloaded). Then, after releasing a joint tape with Gucci, Quan made his message clearer than ever with I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In. That was Rich Homie's last solo tape; he then aligned himself with the inimitable Young Thug, becoming one of the most memorable duos in recent history.
First Week Sales For Tyler, The Creator & Young Thug
Last week (April 13), we saw two big-time releases that both dropped in surprising fashion. Tyler, the Creator released Cherry Bomb, his fourth studio album, after announcing its release only a week prior. A more contentious project came from Young Thug, who, days before the release date, changed his Carter 6 to Barter 6 due to legal threats from Lil Wayne. Here are the first week numbers for both.
