RetcH released his Neck & Lean mixtape in January 2016, and due to his incarceration, he hasn't been able to follow it up until now. Still Up, the new EP from the New Jersey rapper, finds him picking up right where he left off. On "Fresh As A Bitch," the second-to-last track on the project, comes the most menacing and industrial beat of the bunch. As the clanky instrumental shape-shifts around him, RetcH stays low to the ground, concentrated on never breaking from a very consistent bassy vocal tone.
It's a lane that makes sense within 2017's dark, post-trap experiments, but one that hasn't been occupied by anyone but RetcH, reminding us that he has a very important space to fill. Coming off of his sample in N.E.R.D and Rihanna's "Lemon," it feels like the world has never been more ready to embrace him. And most likely, this is just the beginning.
