  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (February 13)
This week featured one of the craziest news cycles all around in recent memory. If you used Google or have been alive the past week, you're fully aware hip-hop has turned up. In fact, some are arguing this year is already better than all of 2015.
  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (January 30)
Big Sean dropped some heat. Meek Mill dropped some heat. Kanye West? Eh. He was lukewarm, but at least he's still dropping new material. Still, it wasn't too bad of a week for hip-hop, which helps since the we're probably going to be shaking our fists at whatever goes down at the Grammys. That's not until Feb. 8.
  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (January 23)
What a week it has been in hip-hop. It's a week that got kicked off with tragedy. It's going to take some time for the wound that A$AP Yams left us to heal. But the game still continues just like he would've wanted. The back half of January saw strong releases from Lupe Fiasco and Joey Bada$$.

  • Cover of Hottest Albums Of 2014
In terms of sales, hip hop albums did not do very well this year. As of press time, J. Cole is the only rapper with a gold album this year, and he just sneaked into the fourth quarter with a surprise release. Most of this boils down to a simple lack of "event" albums.
  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (December 27)
So that does it. This is the final 140 Bars Or Less of the year. While many were shedding melancholic tears at the year's final days and others totally checked out because of holiday festivities, the news kept coming in to give a fitting end to one of the most divisive years in recent memory.
  • Cover of Best Album Covers Of 2014
In many ways, it's surprising that we're still doing a list like this in 2014, as we've reached a point where music has, almost, gone entirely digital. No one's actually buying physical albums, but we still see album artwork with each release, and we certainly had some compelling examples in 2014.

  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (November 28)
How did this week go? Not great. By another miracle of the justice system, Darren Wilson got away with murdering Michael Brown; a grand jury decided to not indict him. To put this in perspective, you need to be beyond reasonable doubt to prove a defendant is guilty. An indictment only requires suspicion.
  • Cover of Freddie Gibbs Says New Album "Lifestyles Of The Insane" Will Be Out Next Year
In hip-hop, rappers have historically aligned themselves with a number of types of lifestyles. There's Big L, who subverted that of the "Rich & Famous" for Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous, and of course Rich Gang, whose "Lifestyle" is omnipresent, if incoherent at times.

  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (October 11)
The good news is that this week saw the release of Flying Lotus' You're Dead and Tinashe Aquarius. One is arguably one of the top three albums of the year and the other is a really good R&B album. But good music doesn't stop the world. As such, rappers have to continue to do rapper things.
  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (September 26)
Last week saw the appraisal of one type of love and the destruction of another. Kendrick Lamar finally dropped the highly anticipated "i," and it raised more questions than hype. The song was a tribute to self-love, but he did so in a joint that sounds a bit more of an Andre 3000 song than a Lamar single.

  • Cover of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (Aug. 1)
In an ideal world, Remy Ma would be in this edition of 140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week instead of being in jail for another week. But, then again, Remy Ma wouldn't have been serving time in the first place. Still, life goes on and the tweets still roll.
