R. Kelly's ex-wife is still aiming to get her child support payments from the singer but she's also using her experiences with Kells to spread awareness about a very serious topic. Andrea Kelly recently traveled to the Island of Anguilla where she went to spread awareness and raise money for victims of domestic abuse.
Andrea Kelly's previously opened up about her experiences of abuse in the hands of R. Kelly during her marriage but she's trying to help more people become aware of how serious domestic abuse is. According to the Blast, Kelly traveled to Anguilla where she was invited to be the keynote speaker at "Women's Week," an event organized and hosted by the Gender Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Social Development.
Kelly delivered a speech to hundreds of women on “truth about domestic violence and how to survive it.” She also delivered a speech in front of a sold-out crowd at the "Hats & Heels Brunch.” The theme of the event was "Women of Faith, Hope & Love."
While she already had a jam-packed schedule during her trip to Anguilla, she hosted a charity event called "A Night With DREA." She raised over $10K between the two events.
Anguillan Officials are raising money to create the first domestic abuse hotline and said Drea, “brought added sunshine to our tropical paradise and breathed life and truth into issues of abuse that we were all too silent about.”
Drea and her team reportedly also donated a "sizable pledge" to the organization.
