Due to schedule conflict, Trump turns down Nats' offer.
The Washington Nationals extended an invite to President Donald Trump to throw out the first pitch on Monday for Opening Day but Trump reportedly declined due to a scheduling conflict, according to ESPN.
Presidents throwing out the first pitch at Nationals Park on Opening Day has become a bit of a tradition including most recently George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
The Nationals will play host to the Miami Marlins at 1:05 pm EST on April 3rd with Stephen Strasburg on the mound. Interestingly enough, Trump has been critical of the way the Nats have handled Strasburg's innings restriction.
A few years ago Trump tweeted,
When Strasburg leaves in a couple of years under free agency Washington will say " what were we doing".— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 13, 2012
Washington should have brought in Strasburg to relieve-- they would have won.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 13, 2012
So much for Washington shutting down Strasburg- they deserved to lose.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 14, 2012
