Pete Rock is a legend in the game and that simply cannot be disputed. The man has worked with no shortage of hip-hop veterans, including Nas, The Roots, Gang Starr, Rakim, Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killah, Jay-Z, and many more. Few can argue that his sound played a pivotal way in shaping the New York production aesthetic, and it's likely that many younger producers can still learn a thing or two from the stalwart vet. Yet recently, Rock has set his sights on tearing down another, namely the ever-notorious Kanye West, a fellow legend in the production realm.
In likely response to Kanye's new Trump tweets, Pete Rock issued an inflammatory retort of his own. "Fuck Trump and anybody who supports and tweets about him. Nobody cares." If that wasn't enough, Rock proceeded to take a shot at Kanye's own musical legacy, reminding his fans that Ye will never be on his level, at least in his own eyes.

"He can never be me when it comes to dem skillz," writes Rock, in response to a straight-up Kanye hater. Clearly, the animosity runs deep, as Kanye's production is nothing to scoff at. Of course, there are likely many who would place Rock above Yeezy, even without the latter's divisive personality. Yet to dismiss Kanye entirely seems objectively dubious, especially given the vast repertoire spanning Ye's near-impeccable discography. Hopefully the pair can once again find common ground, before any of this flung-dirt lands in somebody's retina.
