Early Sunday morning Coke Boy's next up, Chinx (real name Lionel Pickens), was sitting in his Porsche Panamera with a fellow Coke Boy when a barrage of bullets killed him. Few details have been released thus far, although Chinx's team released a statement over the weekend confirming his passing.
The New York Daily News reports that the NYPD is looking into how Chinx's murder is possibly connected to that of Stack Bundles, a friend and fellow rapper, who was killed in June 2007. Stack Bundles was murdered early in the morning outside his Far Rockaway apartment building. At the time of his death, Chinx was serving time for robbery and crack cocaine.
"They were friends, Stack Bundles and Chinx. They were friends, so we're looking at all hip-hop angles," The NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce confirmed. In addition to both upcoming rappers being friends, they both drove Porsches and were killed in the early hours of the morning. Both were connected to rappers of a higher stature; Bundles linked to Jim Jones and Chinx linked to French Montana.
French Montana's notoriety has definitely sky-rocketed since being on-again, off-again with Khloe Kardashian, a factor which the NYPD Chief of Detectives is taking into consideration. "There's always the issue of retaliation in these things," he said.
The murder happened after Chinx's performance at Club Red Wolf in Brooklyn, however the NYPD do not think the show triggered the murder. "Right now, we don't have anybody not cooperating. There is no fight in the club. We got (that) from numerous sources," Boyce said.
The police added that while usually Chinx's security guards would drive him around, for some reason he decided to drive himself that night. Two of his security guards were, instead, driving in the vehicle in front of him. Cops also reported that twelve shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting. As for his companion in the car, Yemen Chee$e (real name Antar Alziadi), he was rushed to the hospital after surviving the stream of bullets. In an Instagram video taken from the hospital on Tuesday, Chee$e told the camera he was coming home.
