Boyz In The Hood
Yo Gotti just unleashed a new record via Hot 97, and he's uploaded to his Soundcloud so we can all enjoy. The record starts off with a few quick words from Gotti himself, before getting into a freestyle over the old school cut "Boyz In The Hood." Given how much N.W.A, and Eazy-E specifically, have been in the news, it's not super surprising that Gotti decided to riff off Eazy's own "Boyz In The Hood." The making of the record was detailed in the "Straight Outta Compton" movie, not to mention an important part to the biopic's storyline.
Strait Outta Uptown
In honor of "Straight Outta Compton" and Dr. Dre's soundtrack coming out this week, Emilio Rojas lets us bear witness to the strength of street knowledge, spitting a freestyle over classic N.W.A. beats "Straight Outta Compton" and "Express Yourself." Breaking up a freestyle over two beats allows Rojas to show off his catalogue of flows and technical dexterity. He even drops a Meek Mill v. Drake "petty beef" reference for good measure.
There are basically three ways to grow up with a famous father: by being a spoiled ass who never has to work a day in his life, leaching off your old man's wealth; by going into an entirely different field of work; or by continuing your dad's legacy, building upon his successes with some of your own. Son of N.W.A's Ice Cube, OMG chose the latter. Spitting over production courtesy of Foreign Allegiance, the rapper proves that he's a force to be reckoned with--a true offspring of a west coast legend.
Yesterday it became official, the biopic about the pioneers of gangster rap, N.W.A, is hitting a theatre near you on August 14, 2015. Along with the release date of the anticipated film, Dr. Dre, one of the group's founding members, released a promotional photos of both the OGs and the actors set to play them.
MC Ren is well known for his role in seminal west coast gangsta rap group NWA, who if you're not familiar with (and you should be) was made up of Ice Cube, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, Arabian Prince, and of course Ren himself. The Compton rapper released 3 solo records in the 90s, but slowed down steadily in the following decade, though he did manage to release Renincarted in 2009. He's now back with a new single called "Rebel Music", which will live on a new album of the same name-- due out later this year.
