Nova the Blind MC

Mario Nelson, more commonly known ‘Nova’ was born October 14 1988 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised in Fredricksburg, Virginia and is the third born out of six brothers. Nova spent his free time doing something he enjoyed and was very gifted at, playing basketball. He continued to do so until he, very unfortunately, lost his sight at the age of seventeen due to overmedication by a doctor, which was around the same time that his father passed away from difficulties with diabetes. None of these hardships stopped Mario from being what he always dreamed of being. At the young age of eighteen, Nova fell in love with the sound of music and learned to rap. Due to his passion of music, he has turned out to be the one of the hottest MC's and songwriters coming up in the music industry. Just two years later, Nova learned how to write lyrics in his head from a local R&B artist that goes by the name of Trig. This gave Mario the confidence to know that he can do whatever he sets his mind to, and this confidence pays off in his music. Also at the age of twenty, he competed in a local talent show. Out of the one hundred or more local artists that attended the event, he came in a close second place. At the age of twenty-one, Mario lost his mother who suffered from a serious medical condition, but that wouldn’t stop the young ambitious artist from continuing to chase after the life he knew he deserved. He received the great privilege to rap for the famous rapper, Cassidy, who then advised him, "You are hot! Keep pushing forward." At the age of twenty-two, he joined a small rap group and did numerous shows in Virginia, Atlanta, and Southern Indiana. Mario Nelson aka Nova, along with the rest of group, was also on Underground Radio in the same regions. The group attended a meet up with the famous major record label, Warner Brothers, but the offer did not meet their criteria. Shortly after, the group broke up due to the fact that they felt that Nova was getting too much of their attention. At twenty-four, Nova was discovered by David Hildreth, the owner of SLMedia One, which is an independent label based in Evansville, Indiana and is finishing his first solo project, Jukebox Volume One. Nova is strongly motivated by his two children and the struggles he has went through. Nova says, "my goal is to bring more recognition to blind musicians and blind artist all over the world."
