- Nicky D's - She Could Be
Nicky D’s (who also goes by Nick D’s) was born in Corona, CA and raised in Moreno Valley, CA. Being raised by a single mother with assistance from his grandparents quickly helped D’s accustom himself to being his own man since his father was not around. Not taking an immediate interest in sports like the rest of his friends, Nick asked his mother to enroll him in band class at age 10. Shortly thereafter, he fell in love with music, mainly hip-hop, after discovering albums such as iLLmatic, Ready to Die, and The Blueprint. D’s then began to analyze all of his surroundings from a writer’s standpoint, using his experiences as the foundation for his subject matter. As he got older, he started to experiment with recording his own voice to create his own songs. Nick put out his first four demos at the ages of 16 and 17. Gaining more popularity at his own high school and throughout his hometown, Nick and his friends formed the Mike Mobb collective in 2011. Nick then linked up with American Noise producer Rick Hughes. The two set out to release Nick’s first official project titled “The Grey Area”. After losing a few friends to violence and prison, D’s intends to use his music as inspiration for his peers. He wants to see the youth prevail and make changes for future generations. The first single from The Grey Area, “From The Sole” featuring Richard Wright, was unveiled by The LA Leakers on Shade 45’s G-Unit Radio in September of 2011. The entire project is reminiscent of the golden age early 90’s sound due to Nicky D’s and producer Rick Hughes taking everything back to basics. Now age 19, D’s has shared the stage with artists such as Blu, Tiron, Ayomari, Hopsin, Thurz, Jean Grae, Stevie Crooks, & more. He has also rapped alongside the legendary Raekwon of Wu-Tang Clan, on Paypa’s 2012 hit “Tried To Tell Em” feat. Raekwon, Nick D’s, & JD Era (prod. by Bink!). With those co-signs, Nick has set out to bring his brand more followers in the years to come.
