To mark the 20th anniversary of Nas' Illmatic, a group of younger NYC rappers all hopped on The #Illmatic20 Tribute Mixtape today and took turns repurposing the album's tracks. One of the sure highlights is Smoke DZA's version of "Halftime."
Shortening the song to less than two minutes (he calls it "half a joint"), the Kush God spits straight bars over Large Professor's original production. Topping Nas s impossible, but DZA holds his own and proves that he's got some of the best bars in NYC right now.
