Moroufdeen “Mo” Makinde a.k.a TheAviator was born in Lagos, Nigeria. on August 18, 1987. He was raised in the Caribbean by his uncle, a medical professor, and spent summers with his older cousin an award-winning agriculturalist. Mo first attended St. Josephs Academy for a brief time before being transferred to Antigua Seventh Day Adventist Secondary school where he graduated in 2004. Soon after leaving high school he began taking his creative talents very seriously and went by the pseudonym, “KwamONe1”. In late 2004, he met a young DJ named Jamal Parker aka Trilogy who was also as eager to blossom into a great musician. The two have been business and creative partners ever since. Respected reggae singer General P hired Mo to produce and mix songs for his album Signs of Life which sold great numbers of copies in the first week alone. Mo went on to record for a handful of stars including reggae stars like Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel , Movado, singer Taurus Riley and a handful of radio drops by international singer Akon. After spending time rapping and working with both local Caribbean and international artists at JMC Studios which was owned by brothers Craig and Gavin Christopher, he began making great friends in different aspects of the multimedia industry. Mo has always been fascinated by aircrafts and had acquired a private pilot’s license (PPL), he eventually moved to Chicago to pursue his education full time. While studying as a graphic designer he changed his artistic name to The Aviator, and created a production label called The Hanger. Mo has cut 5 (five) mix tapes and uploaded them online for free. More than a Mixtape FlightPlan & Basic Navigation , Welcome to The Future BriefCase , FlightCheck . With his debut mix tape The Terminal set to release in 2012, he has been busy not only working on his grand project, but also working on artwork for several artists from Chicago to the Caribbean. Mo’s production style often varies from the use of different cultural instruments usually from folk songs, with his own drums and melodies, to straight rap and modern pop genres. Mo has said that artist and co producer Trilogy influenced him in his recent style, but when asked about his rap/singing style, he insists that the audience should be the judge. Mo has stated on several occasions that he favors listening to other genres of music over hip-hop. He cites The Killers, Sade, Fela, Jay Z, Bob Marley, Wasiu Ayinde and Pink Floyd as some of his favorite musicians. Mo received an AAS in Graphic design from Harper College in Chicago; he is an honorable member of the Phi Theta Kappa society and also holds numerous audio engineering certificates from The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Arizona for both analog and digital console recording and mixing applications. He moved to New York to intern as an assistant engineer at the world class Premier Studios which caters to A list artists such as Lil Wayne, Wale, Birdman, Ryan Leslie just to name a few.
