Smothered & Covered: 6 Great Moments In Hip Hop X Waffle House History
There's something about Waffle House that brings out the inner beast in people. The food, combined with the ambience, is nothing short of incredible. It holds a special place in the hearts and minds of countless rappers. "This ain't IHOP," Waka Flocka rapped in his famed collaboration with Travis Porter, "Waffle House". "This the waffle house. Know how we rock, put it in her mouth."
10 Joint Projects That May Or May Not Come Out
For every Watch the Throne or What a Time to Be Alive, there are scores of joint hip hop projects borne of one epic late night in the studio that never crystallize into a fully formed release. As fans, we should know better than to let these glimmers of collaborative greatness get our hopes up. But the possibilities are too great to ignore.
Staff Picks Playlist (April 22)
This week was pretty monumental. Of course, the sudden passing of Prince rocked the hip-hop world (and accompanying blogosphere) quite a bit, and many, fans and celebrities alike, are still in shock. Apart from that unfortunate news (and his wasn't the only death we reported on this week), we also had some pretty '
Migos Announce "No Label 3" Mixtape; Preview New Music
It looks like fans can start to look forward to the third installment in Migos’ No Label mixtape series. On Wednesday, the ATL trio announced the upcoming mixtape with the release of an in-studio visual of them previewing new music off the tape. Unfortunately, no other details were revealed about the tape, but if what we hear in the clip (below) is just the beginning of what’s to come, then the streets & fans are in for a real treat.
14 Artists That Drake Co-Signed
A Drake co-sign will put you on the map, straight up. It's happened for many artists over the past half-decade or so. The Weeknd was only brought into the mainstream spotlight when Drake appeared on his sophomore mixtape Thursday. Migos stock skyrocketed after Drizzy jumped on "Versace." Even the likes of dancehall star Popcaan has been able to crossover into the American mainstream after garnering attention from Drake.
Offset Of Migos Arrested For Marijuana Possession
Offset was arrested last night on charges of marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license, reports TMZ. The Migo was pulled over late Wednesday night in Chattahoochee, GA, near the Alabama border. Police found less than an ounce of marijuana and booked him on the spot.
Migos, Lil Yachty, Big Sean, Vic Mensa & Tyler The Creator Spotted Working With Kanye West On "Turbo Grafx 16"
Even though we’re only a few weeks removed from The Life Of Pablo, Kanye West is already working on its follow up, Turbo Grafx 16, which is slated to arrive this Summer. On Monday, Migos’ Quavo took to Instagram to stunt on the competition with a picture of him, Offset, Big Sean, Tyle The Creator, Lil Yachty, and Vic Mensa all in the studio working with Kanye West on his next album “Turbo,” as he wrote in the caption.
Quavo Of Migos Has A Message For The Police
Atlanta trap trio Migos have been under the microscope of law enforcement for more than a little while. Their live shows have always been rowdy affairs, and in some cases have led to violence among fans, and Offset spent some time in jail last year stemming from drug and firearm possession charges.
Are Quavo & Rick Ross’ Ex-Fiance, Lira Galore, Dating?
Rumors have been swirling online today that Rick Ross’ ex-fiance, Lira Galore, has a new man in her life and it’s reportedly Migos rapper Quavo. According to TheShadeRoom, Quavo & Lira Galore were spotted together hanging out in the VIP of a club in North Carolina recently. While the video captured (below) doesn’t provide much proof of an exclusive relationship, reports are claiming the two are indeed an item.
Offset Has Been Released From Jail
UPDATE (03/18/16 6:37pm): It is now being reported that Offset's arrest yesterday was totally unjust. Police originally pulled him over because they suspected that his car windows were overly tinted, though they soon discovered an outstanding warrant for the rapper's arrest. The warrant was due to Offset's apparent failure to pay a parking ticket imposed upon him last April, soon before he would be sent to jail for eight months on charges of drugs and weapons possession.
Offset Is Back In Jail
Offset is back in jail, though it's clear this charge won't be as serious as the last, as last year, he served a nearly 8-month sentence for drugs and weapons possession and was released at the beginning of December.
Top Tracks: March 7 - March 13
After the excitement of new projects from Kevin Gates, Future, Young Thug, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, French Montana, and Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz, we seem to have hit a bit of a lull three months into 2016. Views From The 6 is (hopefully) in sight for April, and A$AP Ferg and ILoveMakonnen both should have new material out in the next few weeks, but March is definitely looking like a down month for hip hop's upper echelon.
Top Tracks: February 29 - March 6
We got an extra day of February this year, and while there aren't quite as many brand new tracks on that week's top ten list as the one that preceded it, we still got over 50% turnover.
Preview A Collaboration With Migos & Kanye West
We may have been in a Kanye drought for a minute, but that's far from the truth right now. Kanye West is overwhelming us with content, mainly twitter rants, but content nonetheless. After promising a new album this summer, the latest bit of Kanye news is that it appears he's collaborated with Migos.
Behind The Beat: Dun Deal
Dun Deal is the guy behind the breakout hits of both Young Thug and Migos. It’s been three years ago since “Stoner” and “Hannah Montana” both appeared on the third edition of the compilation mixtape series put together by DJ Spinz' Hoodrich Production Group, with which Dun Deal is still affiliated. In the time since, both acts have not only stuck around, they’ve become among the most influential young acts in the industry, with record deals to prove it.
Migos Lost $75,000 Betting On The Super Bowl
With Super Bowl 50 pitted as a matchup between dabbin', swaggin' Cam Newton and Papa John's franchise-havin' Peyton Manning, it was no surprise that the majority of the hip hop community threw its weight behind the Carolina Panthers. It is also no surprise to see that some rappers put huge stacks on the game, confident that the 17-1 Panthers could deliver one more W. The Panthers lost, of course. The biggest gambling loss that has been made public belongs to Migos, who claimed to lose $75,000 on the game.
Migos Are About To Drop Another Mixtape
It's been less than three weeks since Migos' excellent mixtape, YRN 2, but the Atlanta trio has already announced that they have another one coming soon.
The Carolina Panthers' Hip-Hop Connection
Why have old white women, from Hillary Clinton to this 95-year-old grandma, been seen hitting dabs in the past few months?
5 Craziest Flows On Migos' "YRN 2"
The year's gotten off to a quick start, with long-awaited new music from Kanye West and Meek Mill, and another predictably site-crashing mixtape from Future. With all of that, and seeing that a new Migos mixtape isn't a rare occurrence these days, you might've glossed over Migos' YRN 2. If that's the case, though, you're missing out on a fantastic offering from the newly reunited trio, with the glory of Offset's return shining through the entire project.
Behind The Beat: Murda Beatz
Murda Beatz is one of Migos' most frequent collaborators -- the producer behind hits like "Pipe It Up," "New Atlanta," and "Jealousy," who's had multiple tracks on almost every Quality Control mixtape dating back to late 2013. Would it surprise you to know he's a blonde, shaggy-haired 21-year-old from a small Canadian border town?
