Poetic License: The Art Of Writing
    Apr 17, 2015 at 11:33am
Poetic license is not a new concept. The idea of poetic license can be traced back to the Greco-Roman classical era and is derived from the Latin words, 'poeta' ('maker') and 'licentia' ('to be permitted,' 'liberty'). The concept was encouraged by a Greek philosopher by the name of Aristotle (maybe you've heard of this dude?). In one of the first-ever treatise to describe poetry and literary theory, the philosopher referred to something called "poetic effect"-- which, today, we would call poetic license.

Over the 20 or so years they've coexisted, rappers and reality TV have had a pretty great relationship. "Flavor of Love" is still one of the most popular reality programs of all-time, more people know Xzibit for "Pimp My Ride" than his appearances on Dr. Dre's 2001 (and even less for his solo music), and even short-lived flops like Three 6 Mafia's "Adventures In Hollyhood" still attracted cult followings.

Here it is, the once-a-week look at the tracks toward the top of our charts that you need to know about. Keep in mind that these tracks are culled from the very top of our Top 100 and, by their very nature, lean toward more popular artists. We still think these tracks are worthy of your attention, but if you need a look at artists you may have missed, take a look at Underrated Audio. With no outright superstars to talk about this week, our top tracks consisted of quite a few up-and-comers (and several familiar faces we haven't heard from in a while).

Migos' concert in Albany, NY last night ended violently, with reports of six people being stabbed. This evening, Migos tweeted out some more positive news--confirming that their debut album is complete.  Last week, Migos, Dj Durel, and their label, YRN the Label, surprised us with the Migo Lingo mixtape, which featured Migos rapping alongside Quality Control (and YRN) signees like Rich the Kid and Johnny Cinco, and now it looks like more music is on the way.

Chances are you've heard the name Migos lately. A lot. Last year, the Atlanta trio scored multiple hits on the Billboard 100, all from their two critically-acclaimed mixtapes. Migos are clocking major label money, and they haven't released an album yet. One reason Migos are getting so much exposure is that they're the only trio out there doing it. Period. As rap groups are becoming a thing of the past, Migos continue to innovate, and thus far, they're committed to doing it together.

Migos And YRN Will Release New "Migo Lingo" Mixtape This Week [Update: Artwork & Release Date Revealed]
    Mar 2, 2015 at 11:36pm
Migos dropped two top quality mixtapes, No Label 2 and Rich Nigga Timeline, last year, and now it looks like we'll get at least one more before the release of their debut album Y.R.N. 2. Migos tweeted that they will release a new mixtape called Migo Lingo this week. The mixtape will be hosted by a familiar face, Dj Durel, and a guy by the name of Lingo, who is also part of the YRN gang. We're unsure as to what Lingo's exact role will be, but it seems like the name of the mixtape has something to do with him.

If it weren't for the weird for-pay nature of Drake's new "mixtape" then all five of these tracks would come from the 6 God. That's not to say the rest of the week was terrible. Our Top 100 chart contained a number of notable tracks.  Standouts this week included Migos, Big Sean, Chance The Rapper and OT Genasis. Gucci Mane has been sculpting talent, and promoting new artists since the beginning his career, but it's only over the last couple of years that he's been recognized as a great A&R. Part of that is because following his most recent incarceration in September 2013, we saw many of the young artists he was working with at the time earn Atlanta the title of rap's most exciting city once again.

Usually, donating some money to a charitable cause isn't something you can criticize, but in Migos' case, people found a way to hate on their choice to give $1000 to an Atlanta high school. Yesterday, the trio posted a picture on their Instagram (below) of them and some other Quality Control artists holding a giant check made out to Booker T.
