Meek Mill will hold the first annual "Dreamchasers Thanksgiving" this week in Philly.
Meek Mill has much to be thankful for. The MMG rapper just released one of the biggest mixtapes of the year, as well as contributing a number of verses to his crew's successful Self Made Vol. 3 compilation. Meek has thus taken the opportunity to help out those less fortunate than him this week, holding a turkey giveaway in his hometown of Philly. The charity event will be called the "Dreamchasers Thanksgiving".
"Philly raised me and made me into the man I am today, so to do the first annual 'A Dreamchaser's Thanksgiving' was an obvious thing to do," said the rapper in a statement. "I'm blessed to be in a position where I can make sure that as many people as possible have a meal on Thanksgiving, so that they can be with their loved ones to enjoy the holiday."
Meek made sure to credit the city's mayor, who helped organize the event.
"This could not have been possible without the support of the Mayor and his amazing staff, as well as all of the other sponsors who are donating their time, money and turkeys," he said. "I've been all over the world, but Philly is my home, and to be able to now give back is an amazing feeling."
The Mayor Nutter himself will also partake in the festivities, and praised the rapper's generosity in an official statement.
"I applaud Meek Mill for taking the initiative to give back to his home town," he said. "Gathering together with family and friends around a shared meal is one of the most important aspects of the holiday season. It is important to give thanks for all that we have, and I am proud that one of Philadelphia's own is donating his time and resources to make sure families in our city can do just that."
The event will take place November 26-27, and aims to feed over 600 of the city's families.
