For many rap fans, that fact that Macklemore isn't up for any Grammys this February is a good thing (although, warning: Iggy Azalea might wipe the smirks off your faces), but by next year's ceremony, it's looking like there might be another project from him and Ryan Lewis for the judges to laud with praise and trophies. Yesterday morning, Macklemore gave a revealing response to a fan pining for a new album.

Macklemore stood in for Laura Stylez on Ebro in the Morning over at Hot 97 the other day, and during the lengthy sit down with Peter Rosenberg and Ebro, they got into a healthy discussion about race in America, white privilege when it comes to Macklemore's career (and rap in general), and much more. Macklemore has been noticeably absent since he (regretfully) won a Grammy last year, so this is the first time we've heard from him in a minute. The rapper shares his insight into the wrongful deaths of Eric Garner and Mike Brown, saying,

Drugs are everywhere in hip-hop. Whether they're mentioned on the radio, seen in music videos, or smuggled into concerts, drugs are pretty much unavoidable in the genre. Weed, lean, pills, coke, booze, shrooms, you name it, dope's not to hard to find. Many rappers, like Juicy J or Lil Wayne, have made it clear in their music that they love getting fucked up. Despite the popularity of drugs in hip-hop culture, not every rapper partakes in popping mollys or getting fried.

The nominations for the annual Billboard Music Awards have arrived today. Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering these guys dominated the Billboard 200 over the last year, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are among the top contenders with eleven and ten nominations respectively. However, it's actually Imagine Dragons and Lorde that lead the entire pack, both with twelve nominations a piece.

The outspoken rapper riffed on a variety of topics in last night's visionary stream of consciousness, including Macklemore's Grammy wins, and the VERY HOTTT topic of Drake's Rolling Stone interview.

Although we saw an increase in overall album sales last week, due to the Grammys and the Super Bowl, this week we're back down again, with a 3% decrease compared to last week. While Bruno Mars isn't featured on the list below, it should be noted he's still benefiting from the Super Bowl half-time show, with two of his albums, Unorthodox Jukebox having an astounding 92% increase, and his debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans benefiting from a 52% increase.

This past week has been pretty interesting for the Billboard 200. Following the Grammys and more recently, the Super Bowl, we've seen several artists gain substantial increases in sales. First, the song that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed at the Grammys, "Same Love", as we reported earlier this week, saw a crazy increase in sales of 350%, while their album, The Heist, saw a 62% increase.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' Grammy wins (or moreso Kendrick Lamar's losses) may have incited quite a backlash from the hip hop community, but overall it looks as if the duo has profited from them. "Same Love", the song in which they performed alongside the wedding of 33 couples of all different ethnicities and sexualities, has experienced a 350% increase in sales the week following the Grammys. The track moved 51,000 units--a huge jump from the 11,000 the previous week--which adds to the already 2.4 million digital sales the song has acquired since its release.

The Grammys had a positive effect in terms of album sales, as those nominated and those who won both received a boost in the past seven days. Despite Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city not taking home a Grammy, the rapper still saw a spike in his sales and an almost twenty-spot jump up the charts. Of course, four-time Grammy winners Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also benefited this past week, seeing a ten-spot jump into the top 15 of the Billboard 200 (as if they needed it).

The duo will also be performing the cut, and they have a fairly ambitious stage setup planned. 34 couples of all different ethnicities and sexualities will be married onstage while the duo perform their hit. Lewis explains that the weddings “will be in our minds the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing.”
