Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop” Goes Platinum [Update: "Thrift Shop" Hits Double Platinum]

The breakout indie rap duo's rise continues with their first platinum record.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop" is now a certified platinum record, having sold approximately 1.1 million copies to date, sitting at No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The video for the single currently has 42,582,973 views on YouTube. Their debut album The Heist is currently at No. 46 on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart, having sold 22,000 copies this week alone. These are impressive accomplishments for artists with no major label backing and hardly any mainstream promotion.

Macklemore made our Breakthrough Artists of 2012 list, and the "Thrift Shop" video made our Best Videos of 2012 list.
