Lone Mantis

Lone mantis was born in Chicago and has lived in the Chicago-land area his entire life. He started rapping as a joke, doing cafeteria freestyles and writing verses to pass time between classes and entertain his peers in high school. As he excelled at creative and scholarly writing in school, he turned his attention to poetry and spoken word. Rapping and performing soon became something more than just a hobby, and as a 17 year old high school senior he won the LTAB Mc olympics in Chicago, freestyling his way to first place in the final round. LM has taken some small steps since high school, appearing on Chicago hip hop radio station power 92.3 as an under the radar artist, where he was interviewed and freestyled live on air while debuting a new single. He released a project in February of 2011 called 'Next Level' that had singles climbing into the top ten of the old 'up and comers charts' on hotnewhiphop.com. His newest release debuted this October; a new mixtape containing mostly original tracks that serves as a showcase of continual progression and versatility as an artist. Lone touches on various topics and themes ranging from bragadocious smack talk, poetic story telling, and the constant inner conflict of a recent grad seeking success and achievement while battling detrimental conditions and behaviors. Lone was featured in True Star magazine's Fall edition issue and made a few appearances in various online articles and interviews. In terms of uniqueness, his improvisational freestyle skills set him apart, and his comfort in allowing crowds to throw him topics and words to freestyle with, make him a stand-out crowd pleaser. A college graduate and former college athlete, Lone has always had to balance music with education and a love for atheltics. Since recieving his diploma, his focus has shifted and music has become top priority. LM looks to make more significant moves and continue to develop his craft while networking more productively within the local music community.
