LL Cool J has had a couple of different approaches to his late career output. Fans dismissed his attempt to appeal to the younger generation with the trend-hopping club record, "Ratchet", the negative reception causing him to rethink his strategy and go back-to-basics on Authentic.
His new record, "Know Your Name" is likely slated for GOAT 2, the upcoming sequel to LL's 2000 album, GOAT. It finds the rapper once again updating his sound to a certain degree, but not jumping the shark the way he did with "Ratchet". It's built off of a sweet R&B hook from Jeremy Austin, which plays into Cool James' immortal ladykiller persona.
