21-year-old Little Simz took time during her current tour to sit down for an with interview with VEVO Lift to discuss her chip on her shoulder that has fueled her rise to prominence.
"I think I was sick of not being heard and people not taking me serious, like 'she's cute, and she's got big dreams, that's nice,'" Simz said.
She responded to the doubters by investing her own money in equipment and outworking everyone else in the game.
"I'm at a point where I'm seeing my hard work slowly being paid off, she said, "not just in a money sense, in terms of being heard, because that's all that's bugged me for years." Despite her success, she says she wants to remain independent and enjoys the freedom to put out music whenever she wants "without worrying what 15 different execs are going to say."
