OVO Sound R&B duo dvsn have returned with their follow-up to 2016's Sept. 5th, sharing their sophomore album Morning After on Friday. While they arrived barely visible through a thick layer of fog, dvsn's mystique has dissipated over the last year. It's now very clear that the act is a duo made up of Daniel Daley and Nineteen85, and on the opening track from their new project, their chemistry is stronger than ever. At 2:20, "Run Away" is by far the shortest record on the album, but it covers a lot of ground in its short runtime. Immediately, it's heavier and faster than a lot of their previous work. The buzzing bassline interacts with twinkling piano keys and ascendant strings, and a chorus of voices enters in the mid-section, before everything falls out of focus outside of a gritty sub-bass and high hats, finishing with an instrumental outro that brings back some of the more orchestral elements. It's a more colorful world than Sept. 5th's sepia-toned R&B experiments.

The duo recently spoke to Pigeons and Planes about how foreign films inspired the album. "The idea behind most of the visuals on this album came from watching foreign films," the said. "In North America, we're exposed to so many big-budget film and TV productions that we can really appreciate the raw aspect of so many films from around the world. To be specific, Asian, European, and Latin film all had three key things that stood out to us, that made them feel different from North American movies and TV: subtitles, color, and location."

Morning After follows PARTYNEXTDOOR's Seven Days as the latest release from OVO Sound. It's one of a few studio albums expected to be released this year including Majid Jordan's The Space Between, Roy Woods' Say Less, and PND's Club Atlantis.

Quotable Lyrics:
You were everything I need
Gave me anything I want
Every year we got older
But I never grow up
And never forget about
What you said we should settle down
And I thought we'd get around to it
But I just got around
It's time I do right
'Cause you should've left
