The music business is losing a living legend.

Antonio Marquis “L.A.” Reid is exiting his post as chairman of Epic Records, according to Variety. It concludes a six-year run in that position, one he took up in July 2011. During that time, high-profile acts like Travis Scott, DJ Khaled, Future, Meghan Trainor and Fifth Harmony, with Khaled of course currently sitting on the top of the Hot 100 chart with "I’m the One." He had also previously brought Mariah Carey into the Sony family, having signed her when he held the position as chief executive at Island Def Jam.

It remains a mystery as to what Reid’s next move will be. He currently has an executive producer credit on the drama Cotton Club, but beyond that, nothing seems imminent. So far, no statement has been issued from the label or Sony Music.
