Kid Fury is developing his very own comedy series for the HBO Network. The comedian's half-hour episodes will feature Lena Waithe as an executive producer amongst others.

The show is said to be dark and surreal as it follows the journey of its main character Greg, a black gay man who navigates the city of New York as a sarcastic 20-something-year-old. He figures out adulthood while dealing with his undiagnosed clinical depression.

Kid Fury, whose given name is Gregory A. Smith, serves as the production's writer and co-executive producer alongside Lena Waithe. Both industry professionals represent the black queer community. Other co-executive producers include Chloe Pisello, David Martin, Jon Thoday, and Richard Allen-Turner of Avalon Television as well as Jason Kim.

Smith expressed his excitement about the announcement on Instagram.

"All I can say is that I’m excited and terrified and super grateful. Thank you to @lenawaithe @jasonkimny and @chloepisello for guiding me. Thanks to @hbo for everything. I’m gonna go run around and scream now."

The entertainer is on a quick rise thanks to his iconic podcast entitled The Read. His sound-based production has garnered a kind of cult following through its loyal fans. The Read also travels as a live show in the U.S. and Europe. The podcast's 5 year anniversary was celebrated with a sold-out show at The Appollo Theater in New York.
