A Creative mind is hard to come by these days…but 21 year old Kyle Grant better known by his stage name “K.G. Drama” still aims to be innovative and breathe fresh air into a saturated market. Truly a student of music, Drama has been writing and recording music since the age of 12, and the work he’s done in that time period have not gone unnoticed. Now on the brink of the release of his second underground based mixtape “Substance Abuse” K.G. seems more poised than ever.
“My influences range from Jay-Z, to the late Tupac Shakur …even Kanye West, the Fugees were dope and the Wu Tang Clan…I feel like these guys where visionaries and really made music that struck emotions in people; and that’s something that I aim for,” says K.G. on his influences and motivation for making music these days. His first album “No Way Out” (2011) was brought to life by the production of Krad Dnim, Drum Gang, and Brilliant Mack. With songs like “Mary Jane” and “Young at Heart” fans got the first listen of K.G.’s melodic soul-sampled style of music and have grown to respect the artist for the storylines hidden within the 808’s. When speaking on his follow up mixtape, K.G. says “A year and a half later, my second album “Substance Abuse” is ready for release in the Summer 2k12. Working with same crew of producers, I made an album with a purpose…with detailed metaphors; painting pictures with words, letting people see what I was saying. Releasing “Picture Perfect” and “Push it to the Limit” as the first two singles from the new project, featuring my fam Krad Dnim & Loski Jane…”Substance Abuse” really presents something you can relate to, giving listeners something to identify with…the truth.”
In the end, we’re just Making music for the underground…doing what we love Courtesy of the Goodfellas. In the realest.
