"American Idol" has contacted Kanye West, and they are in early talks to have the rapper join the show as a judge.
The leader of G.O.O.D. Music, Kanye West is in preliminary negotiations with television powerhouse “American Idol” about joining the cast and becoming a judge.
According to TMZ, executives of the reality talent show, have contacted Kanye about filling a vacant judge role on the series. It’s also been reported that YMCMB’s Nicki Minaj is close to signing a deal, and there are talks that the show’s honchos will include a fourth judge if a big enough name is attached, and West is certainly a big name.
Apparently, there are still some major hurdles in the negotiations as ‘Ye is “on the fence” because he is not certain that judging the show is his “wheelhouse”. Of course, there is also the issue of salary, as sources report Kanye would ask to at least match the $18 million a year price tag Mariah Carey landed when she recently became a judge.
Besides Minaj, other big names in music up for the judging spot are Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Enrique Iglesias, but Kanye holds clout over all of them. It will be interesting to see if the show takes a more ‘urban’ direction with Mariah, Nicki and Kanye on the judges panel.
