"Here. We. Go." Heath Ledger's famous quotes as The Joker are plentiful. From the musings about his scars, to his miracle pencil trick, The Joker left a lasting impression on us. Jared Leto's Joker wasn't as legendary, but he still brought a powerful revision to the role. Now, Joaquin Phoenix is gearing up to step into the role of The Clown Prince, and a teaser for the film has made its way online.
In the short teaser, "Laughing" by The Guess Who plays as Phoenix stands in front of a projector. Images of a clown are overlaid on Phoenix via the projector, as the camera begins to zoom in on his face. Then, for a moment, the actor's face is covered in clown paint. The look falls under a traditional clown face mask, which isn't The Joker's usual style. The teaser appears to be just a hint at The Joker's look though, and I doubt his final face paint will appear as it does in this teaser.
The tentatively titled Joker film is being helmed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover Series) and is set to hit theaters next year. The film also stars Zazie Beetz, Robert DeNiro, Marc Maron, Frances Conroy, and Josh Pais.
