This summer, James Gunn was fired from his role as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after controversial tweets resurfaced from over a decade ago. The filmmaker told jokes about sensitive topics like rape, pedophilia and other matters. It was unclear what his next job would be in the entertainment world, especially with the #MeToo movement putting a focus on feminism in the workplace. It didn't take too long for Gunn to land a new job and, to be honest, this is a pretty good gig.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker was contacted by DC Films and Warner Bros. to work on the sequel to Suicide Squad. He will be taking on scriptwriting duties for the upcoming film with a chance to also direct, but that's still up in the air. The publication writes that the directing gig could be decided once his script is complete.

Warner has been looking for somebody to take control of the new Suicide Squad flick, taking a look at original director David Ayer, Mel Gibson, Daniel Espinosa, and others. Gunn will reportedly offer a brand new take on the story told in the original DC movie and it is unclear whether that means a recast is in effect.

The first film was critiqued heavily by critics and audience members alike, scoring a measly 28% on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe, Gunn can improve the series in his sequel.
