Vote: Who Had The Best Project Of September 2016?
September 2016 is no more. It was a good month, a month that gave us much new music as we could handle. September 2016 saw the release of dozens of quality hip hop and R&B albums and mixtapes. We whittled these down to what we believe to be the twelve most significant releases of the month, and we want your help to decide which project was the absolute best. Here are the twelve:
The Best Hip Hop Songs (On Spotify) Of September 2016
Earlier this year, HNHH launched a Spotify playlist called FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now. The playlist is updated on a daily basis. It lives on Spotify and thus is inherently imperfect, because not all super-hot hip hop songs have been added to Spotify. Still, the playlist is generally representative of the best new releases in hip hop and R&B.
10 Essential Isaiah Rashad Tracks
In the Atlanta-dominated Southern rap scene, Tennessee's Isaiah Rashad represents a refreshing alternative, a rapper stylish, witty, and passionate who is unflinching in his portrayal of his own personal struggles with depression, money, fame, drugs, family, and the universal human burden of simply being alive.
Charts Don't Lie: September 14
The addition of a couple new hip hop albums shakes up the pecking order this week on the Billboard 200 chart. Travis Scott scores his first #1 album with Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, while Isaiah Rashad comes in at #17 with The Sun's Tirade, his first full-length LP. Drake is back in the top 3 with VIEWS, Bryson Tiller celebrates 50 weeks on the chart with TRAPSOUL, and Frank Ocean barely holds onto top 10 placement during Blonde's third week out.

In terms of the calendar, summer is winding down, but someone forgot to tell that to the rap game. We've only seen things heat up in the past week, with SremmLife 2 providing more than enough turn up fuel for the next few weeks, and P3 reminding us to squeeze every last bit of fun out of summer flings before cuffing season arrives.

TDE President Shares Mysterious Release Date
Earlier this year, TDE CEO Top Dawg suggested that at least 6 projects would be released by the label in 2016, one from each of its signees, as well as the possibility of music from two unnamed artists (one later revealed to be Lance Skiiiwalker). So far, TDE has dropped Kendrick Lamar's untitled, unmastered and ScHoolboy Q's Blank Face LP, meaning there's a whole lot more to come in the second half of the year.
10 Essential Sounwave Productions
Sounwave is one quarter of Top Dawg Entertainment’s in-house production unit the Digi-Phonics. Although deeply respected in the hip hop production community, he rarely strays outside the confines of TDE's roster of artists, and even within TDE he collaborates with Kendrick Lamar more than anyone else (although he did produce three tracks on ScHoolboy Q's new album Blank Face LP). Along with Terrace Martin, he was one of the chief architects of To Pimp a Butterfly's sonic universe.

It's been 29 months since Isaiah Rashad dropped Cilvia Demo. The celebrated 14-track EP showcased Rashad's capacity for both the cerebral and emotional and left fans eager to hear more. Instead, they have suffered through a veritable drought. Other than Rashad's 2014 tour with ScHoolboy Q, the Chattanooga rapper has kept a decidedly low profile as he's prepared his debut album. In the words of Ab-Soul, the bench is getting warm as fuck. Read on to see what Rashad's been up to since Cilvia Demo.
Schoolboy Q's Album Is "Dropping Before Summer"
TDE CEO and unofficial spokesman Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith confirmed Saturday night during an impromptu Twitter Q&A session that ScHoolboy Q's album is dropping before summer. "Q still dropping before summer?" one fan asked. "Hell yeah," Tiffith responded. June 20 is the first day of summer, which means we can expect Q's album to drop on June 3, June 10, or June 17. Tiffith said the album's official release date is "coming soon," as well as the release date for SZA's album.
A TDE Artist Is Dropping New Music Tonight
Top Dawg Entertainment always keeps us on our toes, and we’ve all learned our lesson after they pulled the bait and switch by dropping new Kendrick when it was literally the last thing on everyone’s minds. Label CEO Anthony Tiffith is teasing us again, tweeting out very recently that he “will drop something when my plane touchdown in LA 2nite… kool?”
A TDE Project Is Dropping One Random Night This Week
