HNHH's Top News Stories Of 2012
“Lil Wayne’s Deposition Footage From Lawsuit Over ‘The Carter’ Documentary” – Not thecraziest story of the year, but one of the funniest as footage of Lil Wayne’s deposition for his lawsuit against Quincy Jones III for his “The Carter”documentary, leaked. In the video Weezy deliberately avoids questions from the lawyer, and eventually gives him a grave look and says “he can’t help you...in the real world.”
What makes this ironic is Tunechi later suffered health issues and could not attend the trial, and this wildly inappropriate deposition video was the onlystatement given by Wayne the plaintiff. He went onto lose the case, and also a countersuit for $2 million.
“RickRoss Cancels Tour Stops In North Carolina Due To Gang Threats” – Infamous Chicagobased street gang Gangster Disciples took exception with Rick Ross using their emblem on his The Black Bar Mitzvah mixtape, and name dropping their leader Larry Hoover. They put out a Youtube clip threatening The Bawse to pay them, or feel their burners. Shortly after, Rozay’s tour stops in North Carolina were cancelled, and later the last leg of the tour was scraped.
Although Ross maintained that it was due to poor management and not threats from the GD, and claimed he was in Chicago and nobody caused any beef. He then went on a tirade proclaiming himself a real Boss. Afterwards, the Chicago PD took a look at the clip from GD members and investigated the threats. No resolution yet on if Ross was dissuaded by the gang to quit the tour early, or it was just coincidence.
“RoscoeDash Claims To Have Written For Kanye West & Wale Without Getting Credit” –Formerly accused of stealing a song himself, Roscoe Dash took to Twitter and told fans he helped write a track on G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer, but he was notcredited. He then said that he ghost wrote “Lotus Flower Bomb” for Wale.
What really made headlines was when Meek Mill, Miguel and HNHH’s DJ Ill Willresponded to Dash on Twitter and put him on blast, with Ill Will accusing Roscoe of jacking Kid Ink’s “Night Shift”. Roscoe felt comfortable firing back at Miguel, who later said he meant no offense, but nothing was thrown at the other two.

“NickiMinaj Threatens To ‘Knock Out’ Mariah Carey On Set Of American Idol” – Mariah Careyis one of the most accomplished singing divas of her generation, and she isalso one of the artists most deserving of the title “diva”, so it was no wonder that her and the strong-headed Nicki Minaj butted heads on the set of American Idol.
Apparently Mariah was being condescending to Nicki for awhile on set when the YMCMB femcee exploded. Her rant was caught on amateur footage and leaked. Later, Mariah Carey told Barbara Walters that she feared for her life as the head Barbz threatened her with a gun – which Minaj strongly denied. This is the kind of drama FOX was looking for when they cast these two female judges from different backgrounds.
“OddFuture Attacks Fan On Stage During Performance” - During a show in San Antonio in a closed-quarters venue, a fan jumpedon stage while Odd Future was performing. The exact details are murky, but the concert goer and OF started exchanging blows. Video footage surfaced, and again it is unclear as to how things transpired, but it is evident a fight took place.
The fan in question, 17 year old Chassan Rasagi later said he was planning on suing the group. OF responded by saying Rasagi was the one who struck first – and these claims have been backed up by several people in attendance. Later,Odd Future sent screenshots of tweets sent by Chassan Rasagi that indicated he threw the first punch and was using his as an opportunity to get paid.
“Gunplay’s Armed Robbery Caught On Tape, Could Face Life In Prison” – Gunplay’s fall from grace stems from his run-in with 50 Cent’s crew at the BET Awards. After catching everyone’s attention with the scrap, he made himself extra visible by accepting any and all interview requests. This caught the attention of authorities as well, who realized there was still an outstanding warrant out on him. The MMG rapper then turned himself over to police, and shortly after footage of his armed robbery surfaced, and itwas reported that the volatile actor faced life in prison for the charges.
Later, he was released on $150K bail and placed on house arrest, where he went to work, and a now sober Gunplay got to work recording music. He ended off the year weighing in on the Sandy Hook shootings, claiming it was a government conspiracy.
“TheGame Fights 40 Glocc – Records Video And Releases It” - Game has always had alot of beef, and one of those longstanding feuds is with G-Unit affiliate 40Glocc. After a pool party the two were leaving at the same time when Game called 40 out. He ended up throwing several blows and knocking the rapper around, all the while recording the fight on his iPhone. Later, Chuck posted the video on a url he created 40TKTFO, and the two exchanged heated words on Twitter.
Glocc maintains that Game jumped him and had his crew their brandishing weapons threatening 40 to not fight back. The oddest part of the story is that 40 Glocc later filed a lawsuit against his Cali foe over the video he posted which shows him in a less than flattering light.
“ChiefKeef Under Investigation Involving Lil JoJo’s Death” – 2012 was a massive year for Chief Keef, both musically for his monstrous hits, and for news where hemay have made headlines more than anyone else. Some of the hits include: mocking Lil JoJo’s death, and eventually being implicated in his shooting; Instagramming a pic of a female giving him brain(Keef is still a minor); saying Kanye “ain’t do shit” for him with remixing “IDon’t Like”; getting in a Twitter war with Lupe Fiasco which made Lupe announce his pending retirement (again); showing up to court in fatigues and signing hisname as “Chief Keef”; violating his parole by shooting weapons on a firing range for a video with Pitchfork. If Keef maintains this pace he will become the Charlie Sheen of hip hop.
“KanyeWest Sex Tape With Kim K Look Alike...” – Kim Kardashian initially gained notoriety when her sex tape with one-time boyfriend Ray J went viral. Now that her and Kanye West are shacked up,people found it natural that rumors of a Kanye sex tape floated around. The tape was stolen from a harddrive in ‘Ye’s home when he was robbed earlier in the year, and later rumors of a second tape surfaced.
The odd part is that the girl in the video bears a striking resemblance to Kim K,but is reportedly Mony Monn. There are other reports that refute this and say they only claim it is not Kim to save her in her divorce hearings with Kris Humphries as the tape would prove infidelity.
"Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion, Faces Years In Prison" - LaurynHill was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this year. Former group member, and apparent lover,Wyclef Jean, called her out and insinuated she misled him about the identity ofher child’s father. Earlier in the year she was booked on tax evasion, and faced up to three years in prison. This came as a shock as it was the first thing people had heard from the normally reclusive Hill. Later, Beyonce took exception to a joke made about Lauryn’s tax problems at the BET Awards, and this made headlines. Let’s hope Lauryn can avoid jail time and return to making music soon.
“NotoriousB.I.G. Autopsy Report Released” – 15 years after his untimely death, the autopsy report for Christopher Wallace was released and described where the bullets hit Biggie, and what was ultimately the fatal shot. "Jimmy Henchman Releases Info On '94 Tupac Shooting" - While trying to get a reduced sentence from officials, Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond admitted to being part of robbing Tupac Shakur in NYC back in 1994. He was given up by his former friend and partner, Dexter Isaac who implicated him by saying Rosemond hired him to rob Tupac. This robbery is especially interesting as it was the impetus for the infamous beef between 'Pac and Biggie, after Shakur believed he was set up. Jimmy Henchman was not charged for the robbery as NY has a statute of limitation of 7 years for robbery.
“TreySongz Arrested For Assaulting Woman With Dollar Bills” – Perhaps the most attention-gettingheadline of the year. Trey Songz was athis album release party which was naturally held in a strip club. Apparently, bands a make her sue.

Mostly due to his wildly successful debut studio album channel ORANGE, which featured the singer reaching down and emoting throughout the LP. Overall, he was met with open arms and rappers and artists alike applauded the talented musician for his honest letter.

This Spring at Coachella, Makaveli joined West Coast legends Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on stage, but in hologram form. Some found the hologram uplifting, as an homage to the fallen rapper, while others felt it was in poor taste and creepy. Later rumors of the Tupac hologram going on tour surfaced, but those were ultimately put to rest as thecompany behind creating the life-like image went bankrupt.
“RickRoss & Young Jeezy fight Breaks Out At BET Awards & Gunplay Vs. 50 Cent’sEntourage” - This year’s BET Awards was filled with plenty of fireworks, mostly backstage. Rick Ross and Young Jeezy got into a scuffle backstage, which poured out into the parking lot. This reignited the rivalry between the two,and subliminal shots, and words on interviews have been exchanged.
Another notable scrap at the awards was between Rozay’s MMG signee Gunplay and 50 Cent’s entourage. This fight was even caught on tape, and lead to Gunplay’s face and name being plastered all over the headlines, which ultimately led to his arrest on an outstanding warrant. The post-trauma of these run-ins are still being felt today.
“DrakeAnd Chris Brown Get Into Altercation At NYC Nightclub” – This is the melee that launched a thousand articles. Drake andChris Brown were both at W.i.P. nightclub in NY when apparently words were exchanged about both of their romantic relationships with Rihanna. What resulted was a litany of bottles, and eventual lawsuits being thrown. It seemed as though anybody who had ever set foot inside the club was filing a lawsuit. Even one time NBA Finals MVPTony Parker had a lawsuit when glass in his eye from the incident kept him from playing in the Olympics.
The aftermath saw Breezy drop an “I Don’t Like” diss record (novel idea),directed at YMCMB, and every rapper in the game was asked for their opinion on the situation. Eventually tensions settled as the level-headed Drake took the high road. This narrowly avoided becoming a full out no-holds barred diss war, which could have lead to future “altercations”, as a boxing promoter offered the two several million to step in the ring together. In the end the only thing hurt was some feelings, and a few club rats.
Philly Feud: Meek Mill Comes Back At Cassidy With "Repo"

Counting down 20 stories that ruled the hip hop headlines in 2012.

Artists of time's past made headlines, as some people do not want to let legends rest, and other artists still in the game made some poor decisions. Big names from different labels just seemed to be unable to co-exist, which was most evident at this year's BET Awards. Twitter was integral to many stories with some of hip hop's best abusing the unfiltered social media site, and venting their rage, and tweeting in appropriate pics.
Here are 20 of the top stories that gathered the most attention in the year of 2012 with beefs, fights, charges, and prison all being major factors.
