Gucci Mane's "First Day Out Tha Feds" Has Already Been Streamed Over A Million Times
Gucci Mane has had a strong following for years, but it seems that following his release from prison this week, there more eyes on him than ever before. After many mixtapes of material pre-prison material were rolled out during his three year bid, Gucci delivered his first brand new verse since being locked up in 2013 yesterday, a sequel to his 2009 track "First Day Out," called "First Day Out Tha Feds". Naturally it earned a lot more immediate attention than anything that was released while he was incarcerated, and possibly, more than anything he'd put out before.
Staff Picks Playlist (May 27)
Perhaps this week's playlist won't be as useful as usual, as most rap fans will likely have GuWop on repeat all weekend in celebration of the Trap God's surprise release from prison yesterday. He had been locked up for three years, and unsurprisingly, he recorded a track on his first day out, aptly titled "First Day Out Tha Feds," produced by his reliable longtime collaborator Mike Will Made-It.
A Recent History Of The Post-Prison Comeback Track
Yesterday was a truly bizarre day in hip-hop. It started with news of a shooting at a T.I. concert the night before in New York, and reports soon connected to the incident to Troy Ave, as the NYPD caught footage of the Brooklyn rapper opening fire in a VIP green room. That footage was released to the public, and Troy has since been arrested on charges of attempted murder, among others. Ultimately, though, it was a joyous day, made possible by the surprise return of Gucci Mane, who had been locked up in an Indiana penitentiary for almost three years.
Gucci Mane Announces "First Day Out Tha Feds" Dropping Tonight
The rap world went into celebration mode when news broke that Gucci Mane had been released from prison yesterday, and the conversation quickly turned into how soon we could expect new music from the impossibly prolific rapper. After Snapchats from girlfriend Keyshia Ka'oir confirmed GuWop was in the studio hours after being released, it seemed we might be getting a new track soon, and sure enough, we are getting some new material tonight, though it's not clear whether it's a track or a mixtape.

Sound the bells. Gucci Mane has been released from prison. Gucci ended a 39-month stint in prison today after a judge agreed to free him four months ahead of his scheduled release date. According to TMZ, Gucci's lawyer filed a motion several months ago asserting that his client had not received proper credit for previous time served. The judge granted the request. Gucci will live under house arrest for the next few months and receive probation after that.
15 Mixtapes That Deserve Grammys
Over the weekend, a petition surfaced that called for Grammy policy changes. The Change.org item argued retail albums should not be the only projects considered for awards, as there have been many important projects released for free over the last few years that were not eligible due to way they were released.

10 Tracks To Celebrate Bankroll Fresh's Legacy
This past weekend, the rap world suffered yet another senseless tragedy with the murder of Bankroll Fresh. Hopefully the frequency of the loathsome killings of promising young talents will not dilute the legacy of any one of hip-hop's fallen stars. In this case, the world lost a rare talent from the fiercely competitive city of Atlanta, right at the time when his movement was taking shape -- when he was set to experience a level of success he couldn't have dreamed of a few short years ago.

In the time since, both acts have not only stuck around, they’ve become among the most influential young acts in the industry, with record deals to prove it.

Gucci Mane Was Going To Host Mike WiLL's "Ransom 2" From Jail, But The Feds Shut It Down
We know that Mike WiLL Made It and Gucci Mane have a storied creative partnership, to the point that Guwop actually gave Mike his producer name (Mike Will Made It/ Gucci Mane slayed it"), so the fact that the two are still in contact despite Gucci being behind bars isn't all that surprising.
10 Essential PeeWee Longway Tracks
It's tough to keep up with the massive crop of Atlanta rappers who have skyrocketed into the eyes of the mainstream over the past few years. Today's lesson is on a fringe persona by the name of PeeWee Longway, a rapper who's been red-hot in the city for a few years now. And as he's still honing in on his unique brand of googly-eyed trap, 2016 looks to be his most successful year yet.
Mike Will Made-It Delays “Ransom 2” For A Gucci Mane Feature

Freddie Gibbs Says He's On Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole's Level
In December Freddie Gibbs put out Shadow of a Doubt. It was a sonic departure from Piñata, his previous record with Madlib, but familiar to anyone who had followed Gangsta Gibbs from before that acclaimed 2014 album. In December 2015, he sat down with NPR’s “Microphone Check” for a long, in-depth interview.
