George Floyd and Derek Chauvin were said to have previously butted heads while working security at a Minneapolis nightclub but the man who made those claims, David Pinney, is changing his story after mistaking Floyd for another black man.

This story has taken so many twists and turns since it was initially reported that Floyd and Chauvin were acquainted before their fatal run-in. David Pinney said that, when he worked with the two men, he noticed tension between them but he's now taking back that statement and apologizing.

"There has been a mix up between George and another fellow co-worker," said Pinney in an email to CBS News. "I apologize for not doing my due diligence and placing you in a very uncomfortable situation."

Previously, Pinney said that Chauvin knew Floyd "pretty well" and that he was "extremely aggressive" with some of the patrons inside the club. He stands by his allegations that Chauvin was unnecessarily aggressive but asserts that he mistook Floyd for another black man.

The Floyd family has publicly stated that they believe his murder was "personal." Their lawyer, Ben Crump, is pushing for an escalation to first-degree murder after the former police officer has his charges upgraded to second-degree murder.

Derek Chauvin is currently being held on bond for $1 million with conditions.
