Actor Geoffrey Owens, who appeared on The Cosby Show a few decades ago, found himself in an odd controversy a few months back after it was revealed that the actor was working at a Trader Joe's as a bagger. Owens was shamed for it online and eventually came out to explain that he had to work to make sure he could make ends meet between acting gigs. Since then, Owens has found himself with a recurring role on Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots. Last night, Owens got to be a part of the SAG Awards, where he delivered a monologue at the beginning of the show.

“Somewhere in the middle of the road of my life, I found myself in the dark wood of unemployment and debt. But instead of switching careers like a sane person, I took a job at Trader Joe’s to see if I could hang in there. And um, it’s actually worked out pretty well. I’m Geoffrey Owens and I’m an actor," Owens exclaimed.

Owens spoke to People afterward and talked about his experience at the event.

“I just can’t believe it,” Owens said. “It’s just so bizarre. I just feel like, ‘What am I doing here?’ I just talked to Glenn Close. It was so great because we worked together years ago. Everybody has just been so kind and so nice. I can’t believe it. I’m in awe.”

Last night was the 25 Annual SAG Awards and was hosted by Megan Mullally.
