Eric Bellinger dropped off four projects in the final two months of 2015. He shared his Eventually mixtape in February, and put it out as a commercial EP in May, with three additional songs, including "Spare Time," a collaboration with Wale. He's now back with his first new track since the EP, "In My Prime," and it features a frequent collaborator of Wale's in Phil Ade. With "In My Prime," Bellinger has announced another project: Eric B. for President: Term 1.
The name of the project may bring to mind the title of the classic debut single from Eric B. & Rakim, "Eric B. Is President." And indeed, Bellinger hopes to pay homage to the legendary duo with Term 1. "They opened the doors for generations of artists to prosper in this industry," Bellinger tells Billboard. "This is my way of saying thank you and providing physical proof that they made a difference."
Bellinger also notes that Term 1 will be more hip-hop-focused than his other recent projects. "In My Prime" is a smooth, sexy track that's got the potential to go up in clubs from Cali to the DMV. Hopefully Term 1 will be filled with like-minded material.
Eric B. for President: Term 1 is set for release on September 9.
I'm on my grind
Every night I flex, they impressed when I'm pullin' up
Phantom every time
