These Hip Hop Artists Are "On The Way To Legend" According To Talib Kweli
Talib Kweli can usually be found debating, arguing, or flat out beefing with his Twitter followers. On Tuesday, he responded to a tweet that suggested that there are no one today matches the artistry of golden era greats like Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest. “I disagree,” Kweli wrote. “RTJ, Joey Badass, Kendrick, Cole, Rapsody, Anderson Paak Chance, all great on the way to legend.”
El-P Gives Promising Update On "Run The Jewels 3"
It appears that Killer Mike and El-P have been holed up in the studio these past few weeks, smoking copious amounts of reefer and putting a major dent into their massively anticipated album Run The Jewels 3. They made such great progress that El-P believes a 2016 release is within reach. "Pleased to report #RTJ3 is halfway done, the goal of a 2016 release is achievable and a safer, more profitable global economy in our grasp," he wrote on Twitter Monday morning.
Killer Mike Shares Snippet of "RTJ3" On Instagram
It was just six weeks ago that El-P shared the first snippet of Run The Jewels’ upcoming third album RTJ3 via Instagram. At the time, he cautioned fans that he and fellow jewel runner Killer Mike had only just gotten off tour and needed some time to “produce, write, record, mix and master” the record. Basically, they hadn’t started.
28 Times Killer Mike & El-P Did The Run The Jewels Pose With Celebs
When they're not getting in the studio making bangers and getting buckwild on stage, Killer Mike & El-P can often be found posing for photos with celebrities -- rappers, actors, talk show hosts, politicians, athletes -- with one hand extended in the shape of a gun, the other balled in a fist holding up an invisible chain.
Killer Mike & El-P Are Prepping "RTJ3"
After touring behind the success of their first two albums, RTJ and RTJ2 -- both which garnered universal acclaim, the duo of Killer Mike and El-P, aka Run the Jewels, are coming back with RTJ3. Don't expect the album for a little while, though, as El-P has admitted that they've barely gotten started. But from the sounds of the BK producer's early studio experiments, #3 is gonna be just as wild as the first two. Listen to a snippet of a crazy sounding instrumental below.
Nas & Zach De La Rocha Hit The Studio With Run The Jewels
Although they're still in the process of rolling out one of the more unique projects ever attempted, Meow The Jewels, Killer Mike and El-P are also currently at work on RTJ3. As last year's RTJ2 showed with appearances by Gangsta Boo, Travis Barker and Zach De La Rocha, these two guys are friends with some awesome people, and it looks like they'll be capitalizing on that again for the follow-up.
5 Beats 1 Radio Shows For Hip-Hop Fans
Since launching earlier this month, Apple Music has swept the rug from under TIDAL’s feet and made a markedly successful splash, delivering a diverse catalogue of options for their new Beats Radio 1 feature. Providing 24/7 entertainment and quality-listening for such a large market can be challenging, but Apple has pulled it off-- especially when it comes to options for hip-hop fans.
Run The Jewels Have A Weekly Beats 1 Radio Show & It Starts Tonight
Apple Music launched earlier this week, and while the majority of its features could already be found on other streaming sites, one big exclusive offered is Beats 1 Radio. The 24-hour service will be the source of radio shows from hosts such as Zane Lowe, Pharell, and Drake. A few of the bigger names will probably have one-time gigs, but an exciting announcement reveals that one popular rap duo will be making weekly appearances on the station.

What started out as a joke is now becoming all too real. The Run The Jewels remix album-- which has now been crowd-funded for charity --will be compiled of cat sounds exclusively (except for the vocals, of course), and there are some big names on board to get the project going.Yesterday, El-P confirmed that legendary producers Just Blaze and DJ Prince Paul would be contributing mixes to the project, as well as sharing a clip from an upcoming mix from Dan The Automator.
140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (April 25 - May 1)
We seem to be hitting somewhat of a lull in the album release cycle, with some big drops coming in June and July (Lil Durk, Migos, Frank Ocean), but no huge ones coming in this week or the next (unless we actually do get Chance The Rapper's Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment's SURF). Many of this week's happenings centered on the events surrounding Freddie Gray's funeral and the ensuing protests in Baltimore and NYC, and elsewhere we had basketball playoffs, relationship drama and more.
Killer Mike Delivers Lecture At MIT On Independent Record Labels, Police Violence, White Rappers, And More
As a part of the second installment of MIT's Hip Hop Speaker Series, Killer Mike spent two and a half hours Friday fielded questions from MIT students and faculty, touching on a wide range of topics from independent record labels to police violence to white rappers to the No Child Left Behind Act. Mike had well-chosen but harsh words for the major label system, comparing it to "sharecropping." "We have been used and abused and we know that," he said.
Cannibal Ox Announce Sophomore Album, "Blade Of The Ronin"
Cannibal Ox released their debut album, The Cold Vein, in 2001, which quickly gained critical praise, and later became one of the most celebrated rap albums of the decade. Whether or not it had anything to do with the overwhelming reception of the album, Ox never followed it up. While El-P, who produced the entire album, decided to give up on a follow-up, Vast Aire and Vordul Mega have decided to reunite almost 15 years later to make a sophomore album.
Running The Jewels & The Game: An Argument For Killer Mike As The Top MC Of The Past Three Years
Ask most Hip-Hop fans who’s been running the rap game the past three years, and the answers would mostly be the same; Kendrick Lamar…Drake…maybe some J. Cole. Even with somewhat of an agreement, there’s no science to this. There’s no exact formula of determining who is on top. Is it record sales? Some would say that, and that would justify the belief that Kendrick, Drake, or Cole are on top of the game. Using that logic however would leave justification of our culture up to whoever is buying music…whoever.
140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (January 9)
The first full week of 2015 comes with quite a bit of news. First, is the sad news of legendary SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott, who passed away after a long battle with cancer. Then, there was the Charlie Hebdo situation in France. The latter wasn't touched on too much in the hip-hop world (although, it's certainly nothing to take lightly). There were other preoccupations, from the premiere of Empire to lineup announcements. Catch up on this week's 140 Bars Or Less.

140 Bars Or Less: Tweets Of The Week (September 26)
Last week saw the appraisal of one type of love and the destruction of another. Kendrick Lamar finally dropped the highly anticipated "i," and it raised more questions than hype. The song was a tribute to self-love, but he did so in a joint that sounds a bit more of an Andre 3000 song than a Lamar single. It's that #BaduBox, guys.
