Educated Rapper aka EMD of UTFO Has Passed Away At the Age of 54

He made up 1/4 of legendary rap group UTFO.

Jeffrey Campbell, also known as Educated Rapper or EMD of rap group UTFO has passed away after a bout with cancer.

For those unfamiliar with the name, UTFO is most known for their pioneering hit "Roxanne, Roxanne."

Prior to news surfacing of EMD's passing, Mix Master Ice, UTFO's official DJ took to social media on Friday, putting out a call for prayer for his dying friend.

“This is a All Out Cry For Prayer,” Ice wrote. “I just got the ok from family to go viral.. As I hold his hand, I need everyone’s power in prayer to pray for one of my best friends since 1979 & hip hop partner, Jeffrey Campbell.. Known to our World Wide fans as: The Educated Rapper MD or EMD 1/4 of the U.T.F.O. crew, which stands for: ‘Untouchable Force Organization.’ * He is extremely ill and not doing well..Please help us pray for a Miracle Blesssing."

This evening, Mix Master Ice returned  to Instagram to post a tribute photo, writing, "God's will be done.. Peaceful Journey my brother.. Farewell & Salute.. R.I.P. Jeff #ripeducatedrapper #ripemd."

Legendary promoter Van Silk spoke briefly with HipHopDX, providing some insight into the few details that surround Campbell's death.

“I just got off the phone with Rahiem,” Van Silk told the publication. “They were all hospital last night. It was the first time all original members of UTFO had been together in a long time. He had been sick with cancer and must have had it for awhile.”

 Among others to acknowledge EMD's untimely passing include DJ Ready Red of the Geto Boys and Rahiem of the Furious Five, Chuck D., Pete Rock, DJ Clark Kent, and DJ Premier.
