Dom Kennedy’s new song “Free Breakfast” riffs off the Nas classic “Watch Dem N***as,” but with a much more uplifting message. Where Nas’ song cautions the listener to watch their back because there’s nobody you can trust, especially those “that be close to you,” Kennedy’s is more about finding moments to chill amid the inescapable drama of America in 2018 and to recognize one another as all in it together as Cuzzy Capone says in his feature on the song: “Everybody come from somewhere different, but at the end of the day, we all in the same struggle.” The production of the song has strong echoes of Madlib’s beat for his Freddie Gibbs collab “Lakers.”

The song is off Dom’s new project Addicted To The Underground, which released as a surprise earlier today and includes a feature from Smoke DZA and another standout track, "First Time." Listen to the full mixtape here and “Free Breakfast” below.

Quotable Lyrics

Get caught slippin’ you gon’ take a nap
Police ain’t the only ones with handcuffs
Dunkin’ on n***as and get the and1
